Outstanding Quote
Dr Thomas PM Barnett before the HASC Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee:
It is my professional opinion that the United States defense community currently accepts far too much risk and casualties and instability on the low end of the conflict spectrum while continuing to spend far too much money on building up our combat capabilities for high-end scenarios.
We preach the same constantly here. Furthermore, we consider the high end of our military to be too costly to risk in a major conflict, and over-costly for the low end conflicts we most often fight. In other words, it isĀ very pretty and mostly useless save for bringing jobs to Congressional constituents and swelling the pride of our admirals and generals. At the very least, it is built as a giant peacekeeping apparatus, but not to fight.
