LCS News

August 26, 2010

Because we have slowed down posting on the LCS Acronym page (though feel free to keep them coming as the creative juices flows!), I decided to make use of vital space and start posting any Breaking News on the littoral combat ship (LCS) here. Also feel free to post alternative LCS ideas and let the relevant discussion on this vital issue for the USN continue. Probably have an RSS feed on the home page.

Thanks as always for your continued patronage!

I just posted on the aircraft carrier portion of this web-site and did so knowing that post and this one are linked for no other reasons that the constrains that each of these different fighting environments presents.

There are many websites that have made unkind comparisons between the LLC and small missile boats from Baltic countries as well as from Israel. These comparisons are very unfair because those small ships from those Navies are not designed to function 3000 miles away from their coast like the LLCs are and neither are the fighting environments as well known.

I think the LLC are a terrific solution to a problem that is currently plaguing the Navy with these escorts and patrolling missions in Africa, Middle East and the western Pacific. And they do carry certain amount of punch.

Plus we do not know what else is in the pipeline… they are vehicles that deliver other vehicles and that is the key. Not the LLC but what they carry and will deploy.

Thanks for the update. It would be good to get unbiased reports from an “inside source.”

    Mike, won’t you reconsider?

Mike, though I have only posted once, I have checked in on “newwars” almost daily for the last two years (appx). I count on you and a couple of others to provide sitreps on my navy, and other issues as well. Hopefully the storms in your life have subsided and you will soon be able to get any storm damage repaired and everything squared away. I wish you gentle seas and fair winds and look forward to your return.

    Maybe its better without me!

Al L, thanks for your concern and input which I will look into. No more virus but sickness in the family plus a funeral this week for a much-loved pastor.

Hope the LCS-2 design wins ! Why ? because it means some jobs up here in New England. Interestingly enough, our Supervisor of Shipbuilding SUP SHIP located at BIW, Bath, are the oversight group for the LCS-2 ships that are built in Mobile, Alabama. So, SUP SHIP Bath is rooting for LCS-2 to beat out LCS-1.

Finally noticed that the SUP SHIP oversight group for LCS-1, being built out in Wisconsin, are all from the Pascagoula, Mississippi branch of SUP SHIP. Was wondering why the branch of SUP SHIP in Mississippi isn’t overseeing the Mobile Alabama LCS-2 projects since they are only a hour’s drive away ?

But then, the entire LCS program from start to finish is inexplicable !

Yes, but that is mostly the People’s Liberation Army’s Cyberwarfare Corps…………… ;)

I was going to ask what PITA but I have just figured it out. :)

    Mike B.,

I see “LCS News” and “LCS News and Acronyms” on the right side bar of the home page. I’m confused. Could you separate acronyms from news( I like) or combine them ( I dislike)?

Secondly, I’ve noticed you’ve slowed down your postings since you were sick with the virus. Hope you are OK.

I know I’ve been a P.I.T.A. in the past, but you do spur a lot of respectful discussion. Hope it will continue.

New Wars is maintaining its pace of 100,000 hits per month.

It has just passed the one-million, one-hundred thousand mark with 1,100,068 hits a short while ago, this evening.

Mike and we the contributors (commenters) do seem to attract some attention to the site with our interesting banter and commentary.

D.E., as always, thanks for all your help! I often am tempted to post LCS news immediately, instead of hoarding it for a weekly post.

    Mike,

It’s a good idea to expand the usage & usefulness of the LCS section from its simply being a list alternative acronym definitions.

One does wonder if LCS-3 will also turn out to be overweight. If so, then we’ll have to think of jokes about that design’s weight problems and need to be provided support ‘garments’.
