Outstanding Quote

This comes from Raymond Pritchett at the Information Dissemination blog, concerning the USNS Lewis and Clark outpacing a pirate craft in the Gulf recently (after scolding them hotly):

It is no wonder the US Navy claims the LCS is perfect for fighting pirates, it will allow us to run away from pirate attacks at 40+ knots instead of 25 knots.

Or we could have just called on China to save us?

Heretic, you are right. It is business as usual as can be gleamed from the new shipbuilding plans for next year, despite the bare nod toward asymmetric warfare at sea. Sad because this is the one we will most likely face against submarines and small boats in the next war.

Ha ha! Exactly. Saw that on a video yesterday with the same point!

Unless you believe that the Obama administration somehow managed to recapitalize the entire USN in 4 months into its present form … it should be obvious that the Navy has been making “bad decisions” about what ships to build (and with what capabilities) for a little while now before 20 Jan 2009.

Worse yet, is that they seem to be interested in changing course as little as possible on this point … hence Mike’s and Galrahn’s message on these matters.

The new Obama strategy perhaps, culled from Monty Python? RUN AWAY!!!
