March 4, 2010

For some reason, WordPress is still sending comments from regular posters to the Spam folder. I apologize once again. I’ve made some adjustments in the settings to see if this won’t alieve the problem. I am even considering returning to the old Blogspot site where New Wars first began, or even transferring to my own domain completely. Think New Wars is ready for the Big Move?

Anyway, thanks for your continued patience with us.

    Hey Mike,

    Long time, no see. Sadly…

Anyway, here is something else that might have a place in a future *LCS alternative* blog entry (should you decide to make a come-back, of course) :

US crewless, automated ghost-frigate project takes shape

Meanwhile, take good care of family and yourself.

Today is a VERY important day for New Wars. Not because of an unprecendeted number of hits. Not because some mythical mark was hit.

Simply because, in the future, today might be regarded as DAY 1 of the NEW BURLESONIAN REVOLUTION, the day when an influencial reformer finally emancipated himself from the *Small is Beautiful* nonsense.

Just dump the corvette thingy down the drain, and you’ll make yet another GIANT step forward.

A very courageous move no matter what : that’s what REFORM should be all about !!!

Another way to look at it :

As as July 4, 2010, the Flag Counter gives a 30-day average of 2,904 hits per day.

If this rate is sustained, then the 1,000,000 mark should be hit in about 24.5 days from now, i.e. some time around July 29 or July 30.

    Prediction time has arrived !!!

Let’s look at the numbers first, period by period :

    1) 4 June 2010 – 4 July 2010 : + 84,204 hits in 30 days, i.e. + 2,807 hits per day on average.

    2) 20 June 2010 – 4 July 2010 : + 41,574 hits in 14 days, i.e. + 2,970 hits per day on average.

    3) 27 June 2010 – 4 July 2010 : + 20,551 hits in 7 days, i.e. + 2,936 hits per day on average.

Let’s extrapolate from the above :

    1) If a rate of 2,807 hits per day is sustained, then the 1,000,000 mark will be hit in about 25 days from now, i.e. around 30 July 2010.

    2) If a rate of 2,970 hits per day is sustained, then the 1,000,000 mark will be hit in about 24 days from now, i.e. around 29 July 2010.

    3) If a rate of 2,936 hits per day is sustained, then the 1,000,000 mark will be hit in about 24 days from now, i.e. around 29 July 2010.

So, at this stage, I’ll have July 29 / July 30 marked on my calendar.

I agree, that it needs further exploring. It’s how they shut up the critics when we see billion-dollar warships and massive cost overruns, they say “Oh but you are actually saving money”.

Life cycle costs are irrelevant in wartime. Tell me how long the ship is going to survive in battle!

LCS figures are even better for numbers !!!

Seriously, trying to shed some light on life-cycle costs like you did today is absolutely essential in this entire LCS debate, because this is something the Navy doesn’t want to discuss.

And they don’t want to discuss it because, as I’ve tried to illustrate earlier today, there’s something really ugly.

    Now, seeing how :

    1) Gene Taylor now seems happy with LCS,
    2) CBO miserably failed to produce meaningful numbers
    3) Powers that be (SECDEF, CJCS, CNO, Under SECNAV,…) have invested so much personal credibility in this program

I came to the conclusion that milblogs owned by lucid people like yourself and Salamander are one of the very last resorts we might have to stop this runaway train before it is too late.

So keep scratching and you’ll find out that lifecycle costs are one of the dirtiest secrets on this program : a HUGE, MASSIVE can of worms.

Now that’s something that might generate quite a lot traffic !!!
